Scientific

Lepidolite is a member of the mica group and contains lithium and aluminum, often with rubidium and cesium.  It is the most abundant lithium-bearing mineral but is only a secondary source of this metal; however, it is one of the major sources of rubidium and cesium. Lepidolite is part of a three-part series of minerals that differ only in the ratio of lithium and aluminum in their chemical formulas.

Lepidolite is found naturally in a variety of colors, mainly pink, purple, and red, but also gray and, rarely, yellow and colorless. Because lepidolite is a lithium-bearing mica, it is often wrongly assumed that lithium is what causes the pink hues that are so characteristic of this mineral. Instead, it is trace amounts of manganese that cause the pink, purple, and red colors.

It occurs in granite pegmatites, in some high-temperature quartz veins and granites. Associated minerals may include quartz, feldspar, tourmaline, topaz and other minerals. Notable deposits occur in California, Brazil, Russia, Manitoba, and Madagascar

Uses

Primary use of Lithium is in making batteries, cesium is used in atomic clocks, and in the GPS portion of cell phones.

Meaning

Lepidolite is a stone of calmness, trust and acceptance that can ease depression and stress, while pink tourmaline is a stone of love, compassion and emotional healing.  The combination of these two minerals can have a significant effect on your emotional well-being, calming you in times of stress and anxiety.  Lepidolite on its own connects with the entire chakra allowing it to become activated and aligned.  The quartz matrix naturally amplifies the effects of both these minerals.
